Sadio Mane posts heartfelt Instagram message after meeting 30-year-old Liverpool star last night

Sadio Mane says it was nice to see Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker again, after facing Brazil with Senegal last night.

Mane was in good form for his country, bagging two goals in a surprise 4-2 win. Alisson meanwhile watched on from the bench, with Manchester City’s Ederson preferred. Had the Reds goalie played, it might have been a different story. Mane did have a remarkable scoring record against Ederson at City after all.

Nevertheless, there was no bad blood from Alisson after the game. He and Mane spent four years together at Anfield, bagging winners medals in every competition they could.

Their delight at meeting once again was clear, with Reds goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel posting an Instragram snap of he, Mane and Alisson all together at full-time. “Friends,” wrote Taffarel.

Later on, Mane took to his Instagram stories to repost the picture with a message of his own.

“Was nice to meet this 2 legends [sic],” wrote the 31-year-old, alongside two ‘heart’ emojis. Taffarel is a legend in his own right, of course, but there are indeed two Liverpool legends in this one photo. Great to see Sadio smiling again.

Mane and Alisson reunite

Those hoping for Mane to return to Anfield in the near future will surely be left disappointed this summer and beyond. Although he’s been struggling at Bayern Munich, there seems no chance of him re-joining Liverpool.

No, our former No.10’s story with the Reds has been written. And what a story it was.

Alisson was obviously a huge part of that tale, with the goalkeeper equally as important to each and every success Liverpool have had since his arrival.

Along with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk, these two will perhaps endure as the true symbols of the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool. Or at least the first part of it. As a result, it really is great to see them together again.

As we prepare to lose Firmino, we are now becoming accustomed to seeing these modern-day Anfield greats depart.

That should re-sharpen the focus on truly appreciating these kinds of players while they’re still here. No one is suggesting that the like of Alisson, Van Dijk and Salah aren’t heralded enough, they surely are.

But as they all tick on into their 30’s, the feeling that a glorious era at Liverpool has passed is hard to shake off.

There was a time when these players were all together on a day-to-day basis, for years. With Bobby joining Mane in playing elsewhere from next season, it’ll become rarer – and more special – to see them meeting up.
