Newcastle United are reportedly ready to launch a move for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, who spent last season out on loan at Liverpool.

According to Tutto Juve, the Magpies are eager to sign the Brazilian on loan despite Arthur’s disastrous spell at Anfield last year, a deal so bad that many have dubbed the transfer as ‘the worst signing ever made by Liverpool’ as per the Daily Star and GiveMeSport.

Arthur made just one substitute appearance in all competitions for the Reds as injuries and squad selection issues plagued the South American’s time at Anfield. Yet that seemingly hasn’t stopped Newcastle from preparing a move for the Juventus star.

The Serie A giants are keen to offload the midfielder for good as Juventus look to balance out their books. And Newcastle could be an option for Arthur with the Magpies making an enquiry for the 26-year-old in recent weeks, which could now lead to a move.

Indeed, Arthur’s time with Liverpool will go down as one of the worst signings in Premier League history. Yet Newcastle are seemingly unfazed by what happened last season, and Eddie Howe’s track record of getting the best out of players could see the midfielder return to his former peak.

Nobody would have predicted Arthur’s loan spell at Liverpool to go as bad as it did, yet if there is one club who will give the midfielder the time and love to get his game back to his best, it’s Newcastle. And this is why a move to St. James Park shouldn’t be scoffed at.

We have seen the work Howe has done in turning the likes of Joelinton, Miguel Almiron and Fabian Schar into world-beaters with the Toon, and with a talent as good as Arthur, the Newcastle coach could be the right man to get the midfielder back to his best, much to Liverpool’s dismay.
