Napoli are reportedly worried that Liverpool could beat them to the signing of Perr Schuurs, with the Torino defender linked with a move to Anfield.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Serie A champions fear that the Reds could pip them to the Dutch youth international with Schuurs looking increasingly likely to leave Turin, with the report stating that Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in the centre-back.

Lauded by Target Scouting as a ‘very aggressive’ defender, Schuurs is widely regarded as one of the best in his position in Italy having enjoyed a fantastic year with Torino, who now want as much as €50m (£43m) for the 23-year-old if an offer was to come in.

With Liverpool in the market for a defender, Schuurs could be an ideal option for Jurgen Klopp’s side as an alternative for Jurrien Timber. And with Napoli now worried about the Reds’ interest, that could hint that a move is potentially in the works.

Indeed, Schuurs fits the profile of what Liverpool want in a defender this summer, with top clubs such as Napoli and Newcastle also chasing the Dutchman. And with one team already sweating over what the Anfield side could do, Klopp and his team must be looking to conclude a deal swiftly.

Schuurs has often been described as one of Serie A’s best and most underrated defenders, and with Liverpool now seemingly back in the mix for the centre-back alongside Napoli, the Reds landing the Dutchman could be quite the coup despite the £43m price tag.

As we know, Liverpool could do with some quality centre-back depth this summer, and with Schuurs an outstanding option, the former Ajax star could be a great addition for Klopp’s squad if they can beat the likes of Napoli and Newcastle to the centre-back’s signature.
