Liverpool could reportedly miss out on the signing of Romeo Lavia, with Arsenal close to agreeing personal terms with the Southampton midfielder.
According to Belgian football expert Sacha Tavolieri, the Gunners are the firm leaders in the race to sign the 19-year-old talent with Mikel Arteta’s side now on the verge of reaching terms with Lavia himself, inflicting a major blow to Liverpool and their plans for this summer.
Journalist David Lynch recently reported that the Reds are interested in Lavia and plans were coming together over a potential bid for the Southampton youngster. However, Arsenal now look to have beaten Jurgen Klopp’s side to the punch for the Belgian talent.
The news comes shortly after the Athletic reported that the north London side were also interested in signing Jurrien Timber, another player Liverpool have been strongly linked with. And Arsenal now storming ahead for Lavia is yet another dent in the Reds’ transfer plans.
Liverpool can’t allow Arsenal to sign both Timber and Lavia
Liverpool started the summer window strongly with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister earlier this month. Yet the Anfield side now face losing considerable ground in their attempts to bring Lavia and Timber to Merseyside, with Arsenal now looking likely to sign both players.
Indeed, the pair would be perfect signings for Liverpool as Klopp looks to add another midfielder to his ranks alongside a versatile defender. And Arsenal landing Lavia and Timber would be nothing short of a nightmare for the Reds, who could have easily signed both players had they acted sooner.
