Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the race to sign Jurrien Timber, with Liverpool also chasing the Ajax defender alongside Arsenal.

According to ESPN, the German giants are keeping tabs on the Dutch international’s situation with the Amsterdam-based club amid news this week that Mikel Arteta’s side have made a £30m bid for Timber, an offer that has been rejected by Ajax.

The Athletic reported that Timber is valued at £50m by the Eredivisie side, with Liverpool one of the clubs chasing the 22-year-old defender. And news of Bayern’s interest could be viewed as a hammer blow for Jurgen Klopp and his transfer team.

Timber is one of the best young defenders in all of Europe, a profile that Liverpool are looking to fill this summer. And Arsenal’s bid now coupled with Bayern’s interest could put the Merseyside giants in the worst place possible to sign the centre-back.

Indeed, Bayern’s pull could be a huge selling point for Timber. And with Benjamin Pavard expected to leave, the Ajax man could become a regular under Thomas Tuchel, something Liverpool might struggle to offer depending on what happens with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Timber’s future is seemingly coming to a head as Bayern have now entered the race for the defender alongside Arsenal, meaning that Liverpool have to now make a decision on whether to pursue the Netherlands international or drop their interest in the youngster.

Given how good Timber is and ideal the defender is for Klopp’s system, many Liverpool fans will want the Reds to move for the Ajax superstar. However, moves from Anfield have to be made quickly if they’re to secure the Dutchman’s signature this summer.
