Fabrizio Romano has said Manchester City might have the edge over Liverpool in the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, the Italian transfer guru revealed that Pep Guardiola’s side could have the advantage when it comes to landing the Croatian international, who is expected to make the move to the Premier League this summer in a deal worth €100m (£88m).
Gvardiol is regarded by many as one of the best defenders in Europe and one of the most exciting talents in football, and Liverpool have been strongly linked with the Bundesliga centre-back in recent weeks. Though now it appears that City could now win the race for the Leipzig man.

With Liverpool focusing on central midfielders, City have a great shot at landing Gvardiol as the English side look to build from their treble-winning season by signing another sensational talent, and Romano’s latest comments seem to indicate that a deal for the defender could soon be on.
The journalist said: “Leipzig are not even accepting €80 million as a price tag for Gvardiol, so I think it will be around €100 million instead and I see Man City being in a better position to sign him, but only if they are willing to spend that money, otherwise the player could stay in Leipzig for one more season.”
Liverpool could be wise to miss out on Gvardiol based on £88m fee

Gvardiol is on course to becoming one of the best players in Europe after an incredible season for club and country. And whilst Liverpool could have done with a left-sided centre-back of the Croat’s quality, missing out on a player worth £88m could be worth it this summer.
Indeed, central midfielders are what Liverpool are after, and whilst Gvardiol could have been an incredible long-term option for the club, centre-back is a position that can be afforded to go on the backburner this summer, especially when targets such as Gvardiol are being valued at £88m.
