West Ham make contact to sign £50m player wanted by Liverpool

West Ham have reportedly made contact for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, with Liverpool also chasing the Portuguese international.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Irons are ready to launch their first approach for the Premier League dynamo, with Palhinha top of West Ham’s list to replace Declan Rice as the England international inches towards a move to Arsenal.

A player Jurgen Klopp has publically praised, the Daily Mail reported that Liverpool are interested in Palhinha, who after just one year in England has already established himself as one of the best midfielders in the country and someone Fulham could sell for as much as £50m.

Indeed, whilst a move to Liverpool would be a massive leap for Palhinha, West Ham’s approach could be a source of worry for the Reds, with David Moyes’ side set to compete in Europe next season alongside the Merseysiders having won the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Liverpool could miss out on Palhinha to West Ham this summer

West Ham’s incredible result in Europe last season as given the east London side a much-needed boost heading into the summer, and for Liverpool, the Irons now have a real shot at beating the Reds to Palhinha, especially if Rice is sold for over his £100m asking price.

Whilst Fulham to West Ham might be a sideways move for some, Palhinha has shown that he can elevate teams when given the keys to the midfield. And the Portuguese star could be perfect for the Hammers, even if Liverpool remain interested in the 27-year-old.
