Liverpool are expecting to complete a deal for outside investment in the club during the summer.

Reds owners FSG have been actively looking for a new partner to give them a cash injection since the end of last year. Initially believed to be angling to sell the club, John Henry and co have scaled things back to merely trying to find a minority partner.

Investment had been expected to come by the time summer rolled around. But things have gone a little quiet on that front for a number of months. Today though, journalist Alex Millner has claimed on Twitter that a deal could now be imminent.

“Re LFC investment. Well-placed sources maintain that several investment options remain on the table for the club,” Miller reports. “A deal is expected to be completed “over the summer”…”

That sounds positive, but we really could have done with it getting sorted before the window opened!

Liverpool set for outside investment

As it very occasionally is with FSG, the timing of their added investment in Liverpool looks set to be just slightly off.

Having started the process in November, it perhaps should have been all sorted by now. Jurgen Klopp could really have done with some additional funds as he tries to build his next great Liverpool team.

Instead, Jurgen is having to work with what he has, and the Reds are shopping around in the bargain basement.

However, these things take time. We all know that FSG are about as cautious as ownership gets in modern day top-level football. And, to be honest, we think that’s a good thing.

In a world where all sorts of questionable owners exist, it’s nice to know that while the Americans are in charge, they’ll keep the club on the straight and narrow.

Of course, we could really do with a little more money spent in the transfer market. It’s frustrating to see Liverpool continuously have to drop out of the race for expensive, quality players. But as their capture of Alexis Mac Allister shows, they’re still able to compete in the market.

Hopefully with a little outside help, the Reds will be able to go above and beyond to sign the kinds of players who can be game-changers. All eyes on this one.
