Ibrahima Konate has lauded France captain Kylian Mbappe amid reports that the PSG star could leave this summer, with Liverpool interested in the 24-year-old.

Speaking to RMC Sport, the Anfield titan praised his international teammate and skipper, who in recent days confirmed that he won’t be extending his contract at PSG, leading to a flurry of transfer speculation on Mbappe.

And Liverpool have been no exception to being linked with the French superstar, with Marca claiming that the Reds are one of two realistic clubs that Mbappe would join this summer, alongside Real Madrid. However, a move looks unlikely after a public statement from the forward on Twitter.

Indeed, Mbappe moving to the Premier League seems unlikely given the finances that would have to be put up by Liverpool. Yet Konate appears to have given the Reds the green light on bringing the forward to Anfield. The centre-back said: “He is in the middle of two generations, the oldest and the new generation.

“He manages to bridge the gap between us and them because he has experienced everything with them. He won the World Cup. He is someone who has a very good relationship with the coach, if we have specific needs, it is easier. He is a very good captain, a unifier and we are happy to have him as captain.”

Mbappe to Liverpool is a transfer every supporter will be dreaming of this summer, yet should the deal somehow come off, there’s no denying that the forward will add some much-needed leadership to the squad following the departure of James Milner.

Whilst there could be a potential circus if things were to go wrong, Mbappe’s quality could shine through the problems, and the forward could revel in a leadership role if given the chance by Liverpool to showcase what he does best.
