Danny Murphy says there’s no chance Jurgen Klopp signs 24-year-old player this summer

It’s more realistic that Kylian Mbappe joins Manchester United than Liverpool if he leaves PSG this summer.

That’s the view of Danny Murphy, who has been responding to claims that Mbappe could be imminently sold by the French champions.

As they often are, Liverpool have once again been mentioned in connection with a move for the French superstar. But speaking to TalkSPORT today, Murphy ruled out a move to his old club, with United seen as the more likely destination.

“He won’t go to Liverpool,” said the pundit. “United’s a more realistic one, but I don’t think he’d go there. I don’t think he wants to go to England. He would help them of course, his talent is undoubted, he’s just an amazing footballer.

“From a footballing perspective, which is the way I like to look at it, if I was him I’d want a new challenge, he’s too comfortable there. It’s too easy for him.”

Liverpool not an option for Mbappe

The way things are at the moment, it probably is more likely that Mbappe would join Man United over Liverpool. Even with the Red Devils in the midst of a takeover, they’re always liable to pull something out of the hat.

Liverpool, it must be said, are not. The Reds have a tried and tested transfer policy which they rather rigidly stick to.

As Murphy points out though, it really doesn’t seem likely that Mbappe will join either club. Common sense and past behaviour would suggest the the 24-year-old will sign a new deal at PSG or he’ll join Real Madrid.

Of course, we’d love to be proven wrong and see the World Cup winner rock up at Liverpool. Having had such a dismal season, that would be a quite incredible statement of intent from the Reds.

Back in reality though, Mbappe is perhaps the last player on earth fans should be expecting at the AXA this summer.

So, fans of both United and Liverpool can argue about it for as long as they possibly like. Whichever the France international may prefer over the other is likely to remain a moot.

But I guess you never know. No! We do know, stop this now…
