New Liverpool signing Alexis Mac Allister has claimed that he’s heard about just how ‘crazy’ Anfield can be.
Mac Allister has already played at the famous old stadium twice for Brighton, and is yet to lose there. He came off the bench in a 2-2 draw during the 2021/22 season, and was excellent as the Reds played out an exciting 3-3 stalemate with the Seagulls last season.
Not many players join Liverpool from a Premier League side having never lost at Anfield. That bodes well for his career in red. Before he gets going with any of that though, Mac Allister is away with the Argentina national team. And speaking to ESPN Argentina whilst in China, the 24-year-old made a comparison that Reds fans will like.

“I played twice at Anfield and any player you talk to tells you it’s crazy how people cheer,” said the midfielder.
“Within England it is the closest thing to the people of Boca. That also counts and is very important. That’s why I said Liverpool is the Boca of England. I’m really looking forward to starting playing there.”
Mac Allister ready for Anfield
If you get chance, the full interview with Mac Allister is well worth a read. The Reds new No.10 talks about exactly why he chose to join Liverpool and work under Jurgen Klopp.
It makes good reading for his new fans and will no doubt ingratiate him with them further.
The line about Anfield obviously stands out, as it always does with new players coming to join the club. At times we forget just how much of a legacy the ground has.

That legacy is well-earned and was underlined once again last season. The Reds lost only once at home during the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, a 2-1 defeat against Leeds United. That’s been their only league loss there since the start of 2021/22.
It really is a fortress once again.
Obviously, it’s a real shame that Alexis won’t quite get the full Anfield treatment next season. The ground is usually at its best on those big Champions League nights. After a fifth-placed finish, that won’t be happening in 2023/24.
Nevertheless, Anfield will still get up for those games under the lights in the Europa League. Having been yet to play in European continental competition during his career, that will hopefully still be an amazing experience for Mac Allister. By the sounds of it, he can’t wait and we can’t either.
