Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe has lauded Calvin Ramsay after the Championship side announced the signing of the Liverpool talent on loan.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Deepdale boss was full of praise for the Scottish international as Ramsay completed a season-long loan move to Preston, where Liverpool fans will be hopeful that the defender can develop and play regular minutes in the English second-tier.

Ramsay joined Liverpool last summer from Aberdeen after a breakout year in the Scottish Premiership. However, injuries limited the defender to just two senior appearances from the bench. Yet despite this, Lowe is confident that the fullback can impress with Preston.

The Championship manager said: “I’m really pleased we’ve managed to get Calvin through the door on a season-long loan. He fills a position we’ve been looking to fill for a while as it gives us good competition down that right-hand side where Brad Potts has obviously been fantastic.

“It gives us options now, too. We’ve got a right back in the building as well as someone who can play right wing-back. He’s energetic, he’s dynamic, and he can get himself up and down the pitch. Liverpool obviously invested a lot of money in him after he came through at Aberdeen so we know the quality he’s got.”

Ramsay is a player of sensational potential, with many Liverpool fans confident that the defender could one day become a regular for the Reds in the years to come. And this loan spell in the Championship with Preston could be the beginning of it all for the Scotsman.

The Lancashire side have proven to be a great landing spot for Premier League youngsters on loan, and Ramsay has the quality and the mentality to make a name for himself in the second-tier, especially with Preston’s system under Lowe ideal for the teenager.
