Jurrien Timber has teased that he could be ready to leave Ajax this summer amid growing reports that Liverpool are interested in the Dutch international.
Speaking to Vandaag Inside, the 21-year-old hinted that he could depart Amsterdam with Timber speaking openly about his future in recent weeks, with 90min claiming that Liverpool are one of many sides interested in signing the Ajax talent.
Valued at £50m, Timber is regarded by many as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe, and Liverpool’s interest has seemingly caught the defender’s attention. Moreover, the Reds are in the market for a versatile defender this summer.
Indeed, Liverpool are firmly in the hunt for a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk. And given Timber’s profile, the Ajax talent could be perfect for the Merseyside giants, with the defender hinting that he could be on the move after international duty with the Netherlands.
Timber said: “I can’t say anything yet, like: okay, I can tell you this. I’m not talking to Ajax right now. I spoke briefly to Mislintat a few times in the beginning. My agent Chris has had a good talk with him a few times, but it’s not like we’re talking about anything right now. Will I stay with Ajax anyway? I dare not say that, no.”

Timber’s latest comments have again fuelled speculation that he will depart Ajax in the coming weeks. And with Liverpool interested in the defender and looking for a player of his profile, the Reds have to strike early for the centre-back.
As we know, Timber is likely to be on the radar for many of Europe’s biggest clubs, and with Liverpool more in need of a defender than most teams, the Anfield giants have to ensure that they are the quickest off the mark in any deal to sign the 21-year-old talent.
