Liverpool are not in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG this summer, despite claims otherwise.
The Reds have today once again been named as one of the most likely destinations for Mbappe should he leave PSG in the coming months. But according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool can’t afford the deal this year.
That appears to be in contrast to 12 months ago, when the Reds seemingly approach the Frenchman about a move to Anfiled.

“Liverpool tried more than one year ago to approach Kylian Mbappe this was also confirmed by the player,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel.
“But now Liverpool have different priorities and they don’t have money to do this kind of deal.”
Mbappe not heading to Liverpool
In many ways, it’s good to hear this from a trusted source before things start to spiral out of control in regards to Liverpool and Mbappe.
Things had already started moving to suggest the Reds were set to be back in for Mbappe. But the truth is that they’re now in a much worse place than they were a year ago. The deal now feels completely impossible.
In some ways, that’s incredibly frustrating. Liverpool were clearly right in the mix for the 24-year-old a year ago, and obviously thought they could get him.

Back then, the Reds were in the midst of a quadruple push and would have been a much easier sell for a superstar like Mbappe.
12 months and a woeful season on, and all Liverpool can offer now is Europa League football. For a thrifty club like the Reds notoriously are, that’s never going to lead to pulling in top talent.
So, where Mbappe is concerned, the best bet is perhaps for Liverpool to wait once again. It’s hard to see him leaving PSG this summer and so he’ll be back on the market as a free agent in a year’s time.
By that time, the Reds will hopefully be back in the Champions League and back to being one of the most attractive clubs in European football. The saga continues.
