Liverpool have been told they’d still been getting a bargain if Alexis Mac Allister had cost them more than £100m.
Mac Allister has become Liverpool’s first addition of the summer window today, joining for a reported £35m [The Times]. It looks like an absolute steal for the Reds.
And speaking to ESPN yesterday, former West Ham United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop suggested the ‘outstanding’ 24-year-old is actually worth triple that amount.

“Alexis Mac Allister is an incredible signing at that price, incredible singing at three times that!” he said. “I think he fits in well. In keeping with Jurgen Klopp’s style, at his age, will suit that club for a very long time.
“Incredible footballer who’s had an outstanding year, just continues to grow in confidence. I just see his talent trending up, it’s great business by Liverpool.”
Liverpool seal Mac Allister bargain
There has been quite some discussion over quite how much Liverpool will pay for their newest recruit. Reports leading up to the summer had even suggested the eventual fee could be something close to £70-80m.
Still, with the price officially reported by the club as being ‘undisclosed’ that will now never become completely known.
That’s probably good news for Brighton. They appear very keen to maintain the reputation of a club who are the savviest of all in terms of the low fees they buy at, and the high ones they sell at.

With Mac Allister showing just how good he is during the World Cup, and second half of the season, they may justifiably feel a little embarrassed here.
But that isn’t Liverpool’s problem. In a window where they need to be clever with the funds available to them, they may have just pulled off the smartest transfer of all. The last McAllister to sign for the Reds turned out to be a heck of signing, let’s hope this one will, too.
In theory, the low fee for Alexis should allow Jurgen Klopp to pump funds into other deals that need doing. There’s now a little wiggle room.
Of course, there is some irony in Mac Allister’s deal going through just as it looks like Jude Bellingham is joining Real Madrid. The eventual price for Bellingham looks like being north of £115m. Had they paid that, Liverpool’s summer budget would have been decimated. As it is, they’ve got a super player, for a fraction of the cost. Great business indeed.
