Liverpool are enthusiastic about the idea of signing Franck Kessie from Barcelona this summer.
Kessie joined Barca as a free agent from AC Milan 12 months ago. But having arrived to a relative amount of fanfare, he ended the La Liga season having only started seven matches for Xavi.
As a result, AS Diario report that the Ivorian has now been told he can leave Camp Nou. Having informed Kessie himself, Barca are then said to have made ‘informal contacts’ with both Liverpool and Inter Milan over signing the 26-year-old.

Liverpool, who are claimed to be in need of a ‘physical midfielder,’ are claimed to have been ‘very receptive’ to the prospect of bringing Kessie in.
Although Barca want rid of Kessie though, they still want a decent chunk of money for him. AS claim that the Catalan’s will ask for a minimum of around £26m to let their player leave.
Kessie claims refuted
With these claims from AS still hot off the press this morning, The Athletic weighed in on the possibility of Liverpool signing Kessie this summer.
They claim that despite reports in Spain, the Reds have ‘no interest’ in bringing the former Milan player to Anfield. His name, according to The Athletic, is not on Liverpool’s short-list.
For now then, you’re going to have to choose who you place more stock in.

In our view, it doesn’t really make sense for Liverpool to look at Kessie this summer. They were quite heavily linked with him before he joined Barcelona last year, but he never felt like a typical Reds signing.
If they didn’t fancy him on a free transfer, they won’t want him after a relatively disappointing year in Spain, for almost £30m.
Were Kessie three or four years younger, than Liverpool might be interested. But now approaching twenty-seven, he’s probably missed his chance on Merseyside.
There are other, younger and potentially even cheaper options available on the market this year. There’s no need for the Reds to get caught up in this one. But you never know.
