Liverpool are about to get themselves a ‘very good deal’ with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Romano has been updating Liverpool supporters every step of the way during their chase to sign Mac Allister. Providing another update via his YouTube channel this evening, the journalist provided the latest on the situation.

“Important update on Alexis Mac Allister,” Romano began. “Carlos, the father of the player will be in England this weekend. The mission is to complete the negotiations for Mac Allister next week. We know Liverpool are absolutely the front-runners, they have to complete some final details on the contract of the player and then Alexis will become a new Liverpool player.

“They have agreement in principle on the length of the contract, the salary, it’s about some final clauses they are discussing and then he will agree 100 per cent the personal terms with Liverpool and then join Liverpool, because they will pay the release clause to Brighton.

“Trust me, if you see reports of £70m, £65m, or £60m, no. It’s way less than this. It’s a very good deal for Liverpool if they will be able to complete everything. But the timing is very clear: next week for Alexis Mac Allister transfer.”

It remains to be seen whether the details of Mac Allister’s transfer will ever be made public. So far, there has been a little confusion over exactly what the clause entails.

The general feeling is that it isn’t a set fee, rather something of an agreement in principle, or some other such fluid arrangement.

Either way, it sounds like Liverpool have sniffed out a very good situation for themselves.

With money even tighter than usual for the Reds without the Champions League riches they’ve become used to, it’s imperative that they found a bargain or two this summer.

As a club, they’ve been excellent at not over-paying for players in an at times crazy transfer market. They perhaps spent a little too freely on Darwin Nunez last summer, but that deal aside, they’ve usually been smart with their money.

By the sounds of it, Mac Allister is set to be another example of that.

So, fingers crossed things all run ahead smoothly and the announcement Romano has been promising comes to pass next week. In today’s strange market, it’s hard to put figures on players. But anything under £60m for a 24-year-old World Cup winner who’s just bagged himself 10 Premier League goals should be considered a great piece of business. Now let’s get it over the line.
