Liverpool fans should be wary of transfer links to Moises Caicedo, Manuel Ugarte and Youri Tielemans this summer.
That’s according to journalist Ben Jacobs. Speaking on The Football Terrace ‘Done Deal Show’ yesterday, Jacobs said that despite stories linking Liverpool to all three players, there’s ‘no truth’ in any of them.
“It feels like noise at the moment,” said the journalist, while discussing the Reds potential interest in Khephren Thuram. “We have to be careful. We have heard noise about Liverpool and Ugarte and there is no truth in that at all, Liverpool are not in the race for Ugarte.

“I can also reveal by the way that Liverpool are not in the race for Caicedo at the moment and if they were to enter that race, I know they have long been linked, the price would have to be deemed to be value to them. I don’t see them over-paying.
“They are also not in the race for Youri Tielemans, who announced yesterday that he would be leaving Leicester. Liverpool are not one of the clubs currently considering or pursuing Tielemans, even though he’s available on a free transfer.”
Liverpool looking at other targets
This will no doubt be slightly unwelcome news to a portion of Liverpool fans. Certainly in respects to two of these three players, anyway.
We’re not sure many will lose too much sleep over missing out on Tielemans, but the other two would surely be excellent additions.
As Liverpool consider what life after Fabinho might look like, Caicedo and Ugarte would be high on lots of supporters’ lists. The Ecuadorian is something of an all-rounder, while the Uruguayan could be the next big defensive midfield star. Either would feel like an upgrade on the current model of Liverpool’s beleaguered No.3.

But alas, Reds fans will have to readjust their radars.
In terms of where they are going, Ugarte looks set to have his pick between Chelsea or PSG. Caicedo meanwhile could also end up at Stamford Bridge, although Arsenal might have something to say about that.
Should either sign him from Brighton though, it’s looking likely that they’ll have to cough up a nine-figure sum. As we’ve seen with Liverpool’s refusal to turn out their pockets for Jude Bellingham, the Reds won’t pay such fees.
Whether that’s a mistake or not will depend on your personal point of view. As long as Liverpool sign alternatives to these three though, most fans will still be satisfied.
