The agent of Napoli midfielder Elif Elmas has publicly responded to claims that his client is about to join Liverpool.
Elmas has had a good season at Napoli, contributing six goals and three assists to their Serie A title win. He’s been a key part of Luciano Spalletti’s squad, featuring in in 35 of 37 games. However, the North Macedonian has only started 13 of those, which has led to claims that he could be on the move this summer.
With that in mind, Elmas’ agent, George Gardi, joined journalist Fabrizio Romano for an interview on the latter’s YouTube channel today. During the discussion, Romano asked Gardi to comment on interest in his client from Liverpool.

“One of your players who did very well at Napoli, Elif Elmas he did very well, won the title after 33 years at Napoli, doing an excellent job really,” began the journalist. “He’s a player who’s always in the rumours. We heard something about Liverpool, about Newcastle recently. I wanted to ask you if there’s anything concrete with Liverpool and Newcastle as they were linked to the player. And how’s the general situation of Elif, who’s doing very, very well at Napoli.”
“I think this player’s a bit underestimated because he’s a young player that has a lot of experience in the national team,” responded the agent. “He’s been playing for four seasons already at a high level. There’s a lot of interest in him because he’s very versatile on the field, he plays in three, four positions. He’s a player with big personality and big future.
“With the new coach of Napoli there will be some evaluations, and we will understand if they still believe in the player. If not we will find a solution because he has interest not only interest from the Premier League, how you said, but also from Spain and German clubs.”
Romano adds another name to the list
To be honest, Elmas’ name hasn’t been one that we’ve been hearing too much of in regards to Liverpool. Has Romano just let slip a new target for the Reds?
These days, the journalist is one of the most renowned sources of information on transfers. At times, fans will belief the Italian over even what their club tells them directly.
So, if he suggests that a player is of interest, then that’s usually on pretty good authority.

In Elmas’ case, you can see how he would appeal to Liverpool. As his agent points out, he’s quite a versatile player, capable of playing in forward areas or in the midfield.
6ft tall, Elmas is certainly a physical presence. But he’s also an incredibly graceful footballer with impeccable technique. In Liverpool terms, he’s actually not all that dissimilar to Curtis Jones.
As the Reds look to beef up their midfield, and perhaps add another forward, someone like Elmas might be of interest. It’s certainly worth noting that his own agent appears to be publicly inviting clubs to try their hand with Napoli.
But, really, we think Liverpool have a different profile of midfielder in their sights this summer. Elmas is one to keep an eye on though, Romano has just made sure of that.
