Liverpool have reportedly received glowing scout reports from representatives in Italy on Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, who has been linked with the Reds for some time.

According to Goal, the Dutch international has emerged as a target for Liverpool with the Reds’ Italian-based scouts being left impressed by Koopmeiners, with a move now potentially in the pipeline if other targets such as Mason Mount prove to be unobtainable.

Praised as an ‘extraordinary’ player by former Atalanta player Domenicao Progna, Koopmeiners is regarded as one of the most complete midfielders in Serie A, with the 25-year-old’s set-piece delivery, particularly from free-kicks, something that has won the Dutchman plenty of plaudits.

Believed to be available at just £34m, Koopmeiners could also be one of the cheapest midfield options Liverpool could target in the summer market. And given the Atalanta star’s age, the former AZ Alkmaar star could be a brilliant left-field signing for the Reds.

Indeed, with Alexis Mac Allister expected to become Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, adding Koopmeiners to their ranks could be an ingenious move from the Anfield side. And the midfielder himself could relish in the chance of playing in the Premier League.

With seven goals and three assists in Serie A this season, Koopmeiners’ versatility and ability to play in virtually every midfield role makes the Netherlands international quite the interesting prospect for Liverpool. And after signing Mac Allister, the Dutchman should be next on the Anfield agenda.

Koopmeiners is at the perfect age to make the move to the Premier League, and with fellow countrymen Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo already at Liverpool, the midfielder will have no trouble settling in on Merseyside if the Reds take the plunge ont he 25-year-old.
