Liverpool are reportedly backing 17-year-old academy talent Ranel Young to have a future in the first-team after the departure of Roberto Firmino.
According to the Daily Mail, the winger has been tipped alongside Ben Doak to make big strides towards Jurgen Klopp’s senior team in the coming years following on from the Brazilian’s departure from Anfield, with Young one of the highest-rated talents coming out of Kirkby.
Lauded by Liverpool’s official website as a player who is ‘blessed with pace’, Young joined Liverpool from Huddersfield Town at the age of 12 and this season enjoyed his first year with the U-18s, with the England youth international making 24 appearances in all competitions and scoring four.

Whilst Young is unlikely to start featuring for Klopp next season, this update is an encouraging sign for supporters that Liverpool are keen to add even more academy graduates into the first-team, joining the likes of Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Indeed, Young could soon become an understudy for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, with the teenager potentially in line to travel with Liverpool on their pre-season camp. And whilst it will take time, the early signs are promising for the winger’s future.
Ranel Young could make Liverpool breakthrough next season

Liverpool dropping down to the UEFA Europa League comes with the one big positive that Klopp now has a chance to play the kids on a regular basis. And for Young, the 17-year-old could be given the chance to feature in Europe if he continues to impress next season.
The new campaign promises to be an important one for Young. Yet with the club now confidence that he could fill the void left by Firmino in the years to come, the winger will want to take his game to the next level when the opportunities are there to be taken.
