Former Liverpool defender Ozan Kabak has applauded Sadio Mane on his title win with Bayern Munich today.

It went to the wire for Mane and Bayern, but they eventually overcame Borussia Dortmund on a topsy-turvy final day in the Bundesliga. The victory is the Munich side’s 11th in a row in Germany and Mane took to Instagram to post his delight after the final whistle.

“What a season!!” wrote the 31-year-old. “Time to go rest and come back stronger.”

Spotted in the comments was Kabak, who, like Mane, is now playing in Germany with Hoffenheim. The 23-year-old simply replied with a pair of applauding emojis.

Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg was also a notable commenter, wishing his old charge a hearty congratulations. “Congratulations Sadio,” wrote Achto, as the Senegalese celebrated the second title win of his career.

Mane wins Bundesliga title

In reality, this isn’t an especially impressive moment for Mane. By now, it’s virtually a given that Bayern will win the league title. That they were reliant on Dortmund dropping points to do so will perhaps be something of an embarrassment to them.

On a personal level, Mane also hasn’t contributed as much as expected. Starting just 18 times in the league all season, the Reds legend has seven goals and five assists to his name. Not terrible, but given Mane came second in this year’s Ballon d’Or, not great.

As Bayern searched for their all-important winning goal today, the Senegal international stayed rooted to the bench.

In fact, he played just nine minutes of action for Thomas Tuchel over the last three games of the season. Something is badly wrong there.

Of course, the elephant in the room is that Mane is unlikely to be a Bayern player for too much longer. After an altercation with Leroy Sane in March, he looks set to be sold this summer.

As a result, this title looks set to be his one and only with the club he left Liverpool for last year.

Still, for the moment he can at least enjoy a good end to what has been a difficult year for he, and for Bayern. Congrats, Sadio!
