Liverpool closely watching 23-year-old’s recent displays, he’s the ‘best’ in his league

Liverpool are keeping an eye on the performances of New England Revolution goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic.

That’s according to Serbian outlet Nogo Mania. They claim that the 23-year-old has caught the attention of the Reds following some excellent displays in the MLS.

Labelled in the report as ‘by far the best goalkeeper in America,’ Petrovic is reportedly on Liverpool’s list of reinforcements for next season.

They’re apparently not alone in their admiration of the Serbia international, though. As well as Manchester United following him, Benfica are now said to have entered the race as well.

With Petrovic claimed to have ‘outgrown’ the MLS, a move to Europe is now seemingly on the agenda.

Liverpool eyeing Kelleher replacement

This would be a really interesting move from Liverpool. We can’t claim to know much about Petrovic – we don’t tend to catch a lot of MLS – but he’s a young, up and coming goalkeeper who appears to be doing really well.

As Liverpool potentially search for the right replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher, Petrovic is at the right age and experience to be a candidate.

Of course, that does depend on whether the Reds do expect to be replacing Kelleher this summer.

All signs had pointed to that being the case. That was until Jurgen Klopp quite forcefully dismissed the idea of losing his back-up goalie last week. Now, who knows.

Kelleher himself is seemingly very open to a move away from Anfield, and would reportedly ‘jump’ at the chance of being a starter elsewhere. For Liverpool to keep him amidst that desire to leave would seem unfair on the Irishman.

Should someone meet their valuation of the 24-year-old, then the Reds should take it without too much thought. As long as they have a back-up lined up, that is.

There’s every chance that whoever slips into Kelleher’s gloves is likely to be a downgrade. He’s been brilliant when given the opportunity for Liverpool. But bring in a player like Petrovic, and the potential is there that he could get to that level.
