Jamie Carragher has responded on Twitter after an annoyed Liverpool fan criticised the pundits stance and lack of accountability on the Reds’ FSG owners.
The former Anfield centre-back responded to a Twitter user who had taken aim at Carragher for his apparent lack of criticism for Liverpool’s owners, with supporters largely agreeing that FSG should be putting more money into the club given their incredible position in English and European football.
As Carragher mentions in his response, Liverpool have been largely a self-sustaining club that have relied on profits from transfers to invest in the playing squad, an income source that has somewhat dried up in recent years due to Jurgen Klopp’s management of the senior team.
Figures from Transfermark show that Liverpool made almost a £50m loss this season in the market having signed over £125m worth of players whilst only recouping £75m in sales, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Neco Williams and Takumi Minamino leaving Anfield.
Indeed, Carragher’s viewpoint on FSG’s ownership is an unpopular one but also one that’s hard to criticise given the success of Liverpool in the last few years, yet there’s no denying that the American sports company can be doing better when it comes to investing.
Carragher’s Twitter response should open a wider debate on FSG

With FSG now seemingly going nowhere despite talk of potentially new owners earlier in the season, Carragher’s recent Twitter episode should open the doors on a debate on whether Liverpool’s parent company really is as bad as supporters have made them out to be.
Yes, the European Super League fiasco and their response to furloughing staff during the Covid-19 were all huge missteps from FSG, but with Liverpool enjoying their best run of success this century under the current model, fans should be willing to give the Reds’ owners more thought.
