Club want to sign 'unbelievable' Liverpool player, after what they've seen him do this season

Aberdeen are keen to sign Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson on a permanent deal after an impressive loan spell.

Clarkson has been absolutely brilliant for the Scottish side, recently winning their Young Player of the Season award. Inevitably, according to the Press and Journal, that has led to a desire for the Dons to sign the 21-year-old permanently.

With a year left on his contract at Liverpool though, they’d obviously have to pay for that privilege. As a result of funds being relatively tight at Pittodrie, a loan deal for Clarkson will reportedly also be considered.

The youngster has scored five goals and laid on eight assists during his productive spell in the Scottish Premiership.

As per the Press and Journal, no player as young as Clarkson has set-up as many goals since Patrick Roberts in 2016/17. No wonder they want to bring him back. Great work, Leighton!

Clarkson finds his club

As Clarkson enters the final year of his Liverpool contract, it would be no surprise to see him move on this summer.

He’ll turn twenty-two in October and has now shown himself to be ready for senior football. But, quite obviously, that isn’t going to be at Liverpool. Despite their need for midfielders, the Reds will be looking in a different direction this summer.

Given the time left on his deal, another loan for Clarkson wouldn’t make too much sense. With a seemingly willing buyer in Aberdeen, Liverpool should look to hash out whatever deal they can get.

As an academy product, any money brought in on Clarkson will go down as pure profit. It likely wouldn’t end up being all that much at all relatively speaking, but every little helps.

For his own personal development too, Liverpool shouldn’t stand in the player’s way. He appears to have found a club that suits him perfectly and can continue to progress the relative serenity of the Scottish top division.

Should he keep on doing his thing at Aberdeen, Clarkson will perhaps make his way back down South before too long. He’s been hailed as an ‘unbelievable’ performer this season [Press and Journal] and clubs will no doubt be taking notice of that already. Aberdeen may have some competition for his signature.

Wherever he ends up, it’s virtually certain that Clarkson’s career isn’t going to be at Liverpool. But after a tricky spell at Blackburn Rovers last season, it’s brilliant to see Leighton back on top.
