Kostas Tsimikas was spotted crying during Roberto Firmino’s farewell event, with the Liverpool defender also reportedly likely to leave the club this summer.
As posted by LFC Transfer Room, the Greek international is seen breaking down into tears after full-time in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, with the post-match dominated by the departure of Firmino, alongside James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.
The Liverpool Echo report that Tsimikas could also leave Liverpool this season with the £12m fullback hardly featuring for the Reds this campaign, though the Anfield side’s likely return to the UEFA Europa League next year could soon change these plans.
Indeed, 14 starts this season might be seen as not enough for Tsimikas, though with the defender showing as much emotion as he did on Saturday, the fullback could be eager to stay on at Anfield in hopes that one day he receives a send-off like Firmino did on the weekend.
Firmino departure could inspire Tsimikas to stay and fight at Liverpool
Tsimikas might not become as iconic a player for Liverpool supporters as Firmino when his time on Merseyside comes to an end, but after seeing the left-back’s emotional reaction to the Brazilian’s goodbye party at Anfield, the Greek international could now be inspired to stay and fight for his spot in the squad.
As we know, Liverpool are open to selling the 26-year-old this summer if the right offer emerges in the window. However, with Tsimikas as passionate as he is and eager to win hs spot in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI, next season could be the period where the defender finally makes a name for himself after his heroics last year.
