Jorg Schmadtke is reportedly due to land in Liverpool this week to finalise terms over a move to the Merseyside giants, with the German set to replace Julian Ward as sporting director.
According to the Athletic, the former VfL Wolfsburg official will be in England soon to iron out the finer details of his short-term deal to join Liverpool, with Schmadtke being recruited to help Jurgen Klopp in what could be the most important summer the Anfield side will undertake in some years.
As per the report, Klopp is a huge fan of Schmadtke and has known the former goalkeeper for quite some time, and there is an expectation that the German will be the right man to help Liverpool in their summer rebuild, with central midfielders, a defender and a new backup shot-stopper all on the agenda.

Lauded as an ‘intelligent’ figure by former Liverpool player Erik Meijer, there is a growing sense around the red half of Merseyside that Schmadtke could be the man to help rebuild Klopp’s next great team, and the transfer guru landing in England this week is a promising sign.
Indeed, the sooner Schmadtke is an official Liverpool employee the better, and with the season close to an end, the former Bundesliga sporting director will need as much time needed to help bring in the players the Reds need to help challenge for next year’s Premier League title.
Liverpool have to announce Schmadtke before the end of this season

Schmadtke will arrive at Liverpool this summer with the man tasked to solve the club’s issues that have plagued them for the last 12 months, and supporters will be hopeful that the Reds will announce the German as their new sporting director sooner rather than later.
As we know, Schmadtke will only spend three months on Liverpool’s books to help with their summer recruitment, meaning that each day the former Bundesliga director is employed at Anfield could be critical in identifying new targets or helping push deals through the door.
