Jurrien Timber makes huge transfer admission after links to Liverpool

Jurrien Timber has hinted that transfer talks to leave Ajax could start soon, with Liverpool reportedly interested in the Dutch international.

Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, the 21-year-old defender revealed that whilst he is happy at Ajax, talks could soon start over a potential departure, with Timber meeting with the club’s sporting director, Sven Mislintat, recently to discuss summer plans.

90min claimed in March that Timber was on Liverpool’s radar, with the £44m-rated defender a player who could be of use for Jurgen Klopp next season. And according to the player himself, talks could soon begin on a move away from Amsterdam.

Timber said when asked about his future at Ajax and his plans for the summer: “I met him (Sven Mislintat) here at De Toekomst and then we spoke briefly and one-on-one. He spoke longer with my agent. As far as I know, Ajax wants to keep me here.

“Beyond that, I can hardly say anything about it. Talks about that will probably follow soon. Actually, I am now in the same situation as last year. I don’t know yet whether I will make that step now. I’m happy to be at Ajax. Here you can always show yourself.”

Liverpool have to move for Timber before it’s too late

Defence is slowly emerging as a potential weak spot for Liverpool in their squad with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip both tipped to leave the club this summer, and as a result, signing Timber could as soon as possible could be an outstanding transfer decision from the Reds.

The centre-back has proven himself to be one of Ajax’s most exiting talents and a player who could thrive in the Premier League, and Liverpool could be the ideal next destination for the 21-year-old this summer under Jurgen Klopp.
