Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has promised to dribble past Virgil van Dijk if he ever comes up against Liverpool at Anfield in the future.

Ox is set to leave the Reds this summer, after a trophy-laden six years at the club. Today gave him the chance to say goodbye to the Liverpool fans, and he gave his thoughts to LFCTV following the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

Asked where he’s expecting to end up at the stat of next season, the 29-year-old wasn’t giving too much away. But he did make a promise to Liverpool supporters if he ever finds himself in the away dressing room back at Anfield.

“I don’t know what happens next, I don’t know where. It’ll be a busy summer chasing after him [his son] and seeing what comes next,” Oxlade-Chamberlain said.

“I’m sure I’ll probably be back here at some point, in the difficult away dressing room against these fans, I’ve done it before! I’ll try and do my best, if I manage to score or anything, I won’t be celebrating, I can promise you that. I told Virgil I might be able to dribble past him for the first time in forever, because I’ll be that motivated to do well against the boys!”

Ox looks ahead to Anfield return

After slowly drifting out of favour at Liverpool, it’ll be fascinating to see where Ox ends up next season. Although he’s struggled for minutes over the last couple of campaigns, he’s clearly still got a lot to give.

On a free transfer, he’ll be an attractive signing for plenty of Premier League and European clubs.

Should he stay in England though, the midfielder could be a danger for Liverpool in 2023/24 and beyond. As he mentions, he’ll be doubly motivated to cause the Reds some problems. On his day, he’s more than capable of doing that.

We perhaps haven’t seen the former Arsenal man with the bit between his teeth quite enough during the last six years. But think back to Manchester City or Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. When he’s on it, Oxlade-Chamberlain can be a match winner.

He’ll be absolutely determined to show Liverpool – and Jurgen Klopp – that they were wrong not to give him more importance in their team.

In the meantime though, it’s goodbye to Ox. It hasn’t always been easy for him, but he goes away with some special, special Anfield moments that will live long in the memory.

Until the next time then, Chambo, we’ll be ready for you!
