Jurgen Klopp has ruled Darwin Nunez out of Liverpool’s game against Aston Villa tomorrow.
The Uruguayan missed the Reds win over Leicester City on Monday with a toe injury. And speaking in his pre-match press conference today, Klopp has now admitted that Darwin is set to miss Saturday’s match-up with Villa, too.
“Darwin will not be available. It’s inflammation of the tendon at the toe, very painful obviously,” said the boss. “He didn’t train yet this week so will not be available for tomorrow.”

Klopp also gave a further injury update on the Liverpool squad.
“The long-term injuries are still out but all the rest should be available. Bobby trained,” he said.
Darwin picks up another knock
With just one more game to play after tomorrow is out of the way, it’s safe to say Nunez probably won’t feature again this season. As a result, his debut campaign at Anfield is pretty much wrapped up.
Although we’ll save a proper analysis for a later date, it’s probably fair to remark that the former Benfica man has had a very mixed season.
There have been some very, very good things from Nunez over the course of the year. But there have also been some things that badly need quite a lot of work.

One of those things is, unfortunately, his tendency to pick up little knocks.
Inflammation of the toe is hardly a big injury, and it’s possible that other players may in fact be minded to play through it. We’ve also seen him have a couple of similar, short-term problems since joining the club, too.
That isn’t to say that there’s a possibility Darwin could play tomorrow. The medical team will have decided along with Klopp and Nunez himself, that’s fine.
But if he glances at those saying their goodbyes to Anfield tomorrow, he’ll get a glimpse into two different ways his Reds career could go. On the one hand are two players who’ve made themselves available whenever possible, earning legendary status in the process.
On the other, there are a couple who let injuries rule their time at the club. Darwin needs to get himself on the right side. No more injuries, please!
