Liverpool are reportedly interested in FC Basel midfielder Andy Diouf, who has enjoyed a breakout season in Switzerland this campaign.

According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, the 20-year-old French youth international has caught the eye of those at Anfield after a string of impressive performances in the Swiss Super League and the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Lauded as a ‘powerful and dangerous’ talent by Football Talent Scout, Diouf has an agreement in place to sign for Basel on a permanent deal this summer once his loan spell from Stade Rennais ends at the end of this season, yet the midfielder could already be on the move.

As per the report, Liverpool are keeping track of Diouf alongside Serie A side Bologna, and with Jurgen Klopp’s side keen on signing a midfielder this summer, the Parisian talent could be an ideal addition for the Merseyside giants on the cheap.

Indeed, Basel could make a reasonable demand for Diouf despite his age and his potential, and for Liverpool, the youngster could be a bargain signing this summer to compensate for some potentially expensive deals in the form of Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount.

Liverpool are no strangers to signing players with a view of making them projects, with Roberto Firmino and Joe Gomez two obvious candidates, and the Reds could do something similar this summer with Diouf, who could be ideal for the Premier League.

Physically outstanding and versatile in the midfield, the 20-year-old has all the tools to thrive at Liverpool with the right development and training, and Klopp could be keen to bring Diouf to Anfield should Basel make a reasonable demand for their star talent.
