Jurgen Klopp reportedly offered James Milner a coaching role in an attempt to keep the 37-year-old midfielder at Liverpool.
According to the Mirror, the German manager was desperate to keep the veteran player at Anfield beyond this season and offered Milner a coaching role, with Liverpool announcing this week that the former England international will be one of four players to leave the club when their contracts expire.
As per the report, Klopp is a massive fan of Milner’s work ethic on and off the pitch as the Liverpool manager threw around the idea of giving the £120,000-a-week player a coaching role. However, a concrete offer was never made to the midfielder.

With Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United both linked with signing Milner this summer, it is clear that the 37-year-old is an in-demand player heading into his departure from Anfield, and whilst a training ground role could one day suit the Liverpool man, that time is certainly not now.
Indeed, Milner has the mentality and experience to be an incredible coach on Klopp’s staff. However, it is clear that the Liverpool no. 7 wants to continue his playing career, though a return to Merseyside can’t be ruled out once the midfielder hangs up his boots.
Milner returning to Liverpool as a coach one day feels nailed on

Milner’s reputation on the training ground speaks for itself, and with the midfielder set to leave Liverpool for one last dance in the Premier League, it already feels like a certainty that the 37-year-old will soon return to Anfield as a coach for the Reds.
As we know, the former Manchester City star is one of the smartest players in Liverpool’s squad as well as one of the most respected. And to return one day as a coach will be a huge fan-favourite decision as well as a move that Milner himself could one day want to make.
