Former Dutch international Andy van der Meije has tipped Liverpool to sign Jurrien Timber, with the Ajax star expected to leave Amsterdam this summer.
Speaking on Veronica Offside via Voetbal Zone, the pundit suggested that the £35m-rated defender will join the Reds this summer amid growing reports that Timber will quit Ajax for a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool the early favourites for the 21-year-old.
With Feyenoord wrapping up the Eredivisie title this weekend and Ajax enduring one of their worst seasons in some time, there is an expectation that the Dutch giants will blow up the squad to start anew, with the likes of Timber expected to leave to increase funds for a summer of spending.

And according to Van der Meije, the Netherlands international could be sold to Liverpool, with the former international saying: “There may be eight or nine players that Ajax will have to say goodbye to. But you also have to replace them with quality if you want to compete.
“I think they will do that in a different way with the youth. Alvarez will leave for €40m, Kudus for €30m and Timber will probably go to Liverpool. They also pay crazy money. Then you can start building again.”
Liverpool signing Timber could be one of the best deals of the summer

Whilst central midfield is currently taking up most of the airwaves when it comes to Liverpool’s summer rumours, defence could prove to be more important, and signing Timber has the potential be one of the best deals of the window if the Merseyside giants can pull it off.
Versatile, aged just 21 and experienced way beyond his years, Timber ticks a lot of boxes for what Liverpool want in a defender this summer, and with Ajax planning to sell the bulk of their squad to start over, the Dutch international could be an ideal addition for Klopp in the window.
