Liverpool are reportedly close to the signing of Wolves teenager Harvey Owen in a deal that could be worth as much as £800,000.
According to the Mirror, the Merseyside giants are set to complete a deal to bring the 14-year-old defender to Anfield, with Owen considered to be one of the best talents in all of England as Liverpool have again won the race for one of Britain’s most exciting youngsters.
As reported by Secret Scout, Brexit has made Premier League clubs look at homegrown options under the age of 16 to add to their academies, driving up values and leading to big deals like this, with Liverpool last year signing Ben Doak for £600,000 from Celtic.
And Owen is now the latest talent Liverpool are willing to splash the cash on, with the teenage defender regarded for his ability to play in numerous positions across the backline as well as for stepping out into midfield to help up with Wolves’ build-up play.
Wolves academy coach Wes Hughes said about Owen: “He’s a right-footed player who likes to play on the left side at the back – whether that’s in a back three or a back four. He’s come on leaps and bounds in terms of his football. We truly believe if he can overcome some difficulties and embrace some of the adversity, he can surprise a few.”

At 14, the defender is already playing well above his age profile and is on course to enjoy a stellar career if Liverpool can aid the youngster’s development, and with £800,000 being spent, the Reds will hope to see Owen one day become a senior player if everything goes to plan.
