Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool midfielder James Milner if the Whites can survive Premier League relegation.

According to the Daily Mail, the Whites have the 37-year-old on their radar as Leeds set out their summer plans, though Brighton & Hove Albion remain the strong favourites to sign Milner, who will leave Liverpool at the end of this season.

The £120,000-a-week midfielder has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent players under Jurgen Klopp, and the veteran is expected to make one last big career move before hanging up his boots for good, with a return to Leeds a fairytale transfer this summer.

Milner started his career at the Yorkshire giants, making his professional debut at 16 before going on to play for the likes of Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester City, before ending up at Liverpool and winning the UEFA Champions League with the Reds.

Indeed, whilst Brighton is still the most likely destination for Milner, the midfielder’s summer plans could now change at the last minute, with Leeds pulling off a great relegation escape a factor that could convince the Liverpool veteran to return home to Elland Road.

Milner should still sign for Brighton despite Leeds history

Milner returning to Leeds is the stuff of footballing poetry, with the midfielder making his way back to the club where everything started for the 37-year-old. Yet despite the romantics of such a story, the Liverpool star should set his sights on a move to Brighton.

As we know, the Seagulls are in the driving seat for European football next season, and whilst Milner signing for Leeds would be a dream way to end his career, the player himself will want one last crack of playing on the continent, something the Whites cannot offer.
