Transfer interest in Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes is reportedly receding, with Liverpool one of the sides interested in a move for the 24-year-old.

According to the Athletic, interest in the former Sporting Lisbon star is decreasing after a ‘difficult’ first year in the Premier League for Nunes, with Wolves now confident that they won’t have to sell the midfielder this summer despite plenty of interest.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Nunes heading into the summer transfer window, yet this latest update could indicate that the Reds are one of the teams that have dropped their interest in signing the Wolves superstar.

Lauded as a ‘complete’ midfielder by manager Julen Lopetegui, many had tipped Nunes to make a move to one of the Premier League’s biggest side this summer just mere weeks after signing for Wolves last year. However, the reality appears more muddied than first thought.

Indeed, the £55m-rated Nunes has struggled at times this campaign, as have Wolves as a whole in what has been a turbulent year for the Molineux side, and for Liverpool, giving a miss on Nunes could be a smart decision with the Reds already linked with so many midfielders.

Nunes has shown some flashes of quality this season for Wolves, yet with the midfielder and the club ultimately disappointing this campaign, it makes sense why interest is receding in the Portuguese international, with Liverpool likely to be one of the sides in the pack.

As we know, the Reds have plenty of midfielders on their summer wish list, and with Nunes enjoying a difficult first year in the Premier League, Liverpool are well within their right to pass up on the option to sign the Wolves star in the upcoming transfer window.
