Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly ready to do all he can to keep Mason Mount at Chelsea amid growing transfer interest from Liverpool.

According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, the Argentine coach’s imminent arrival to west London has brought up greater emphasis on keeping Mount at the club, with Liverpool heavily linked with a move for the England international this summer.

Reportedly valued at £70m, Jurgen Klopp’s side have identified the 24-year-old as a prime midfield target as Liverpool look to overhaul their options in the position, with Mount an ideal player for the German coach at Anfield.

However, Pochettino’s appointment at Chelsea could now see Mount stay at Stamford Bridge, and this decision could be viewed by many at Liverpool as a huge blow for their transfer plans, with the playmaker perfect for Klopp’s midfield plans this summer.

Indeed, Mount has looked ready to leave Chelsea in the build-up to the transfer window. However, the Blues hiring Pochettino might just convince the Liverpool target to remain in the English capital, with the Merseyside giants having every right to kick themselves over not pulling off a deal sooner.

Chelsea have been rightly criticised for their decisions under new owner Todd Boehly after the last 12 months, yet appointing Pochettino could be the American businessman’s best move yet, and Liverpool’s dream of signing Mount could be ended in the coming weeks.

The England international is seemingly excited about working with the former PSG manager next season, and with Pochettino a coach who has proven to take players to the next level, Mount could now sign a new contract with Chelsea and confirm Liverpool’s doom in their quest to land the midfielder.
