Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly discussed a move to bring Alexis Mac Allister to Chelsea, but the midfielder is claimed to want a transfer to Liverpool this summer.

According to the Independent, the incoming Blues manager has been in talks with his new club over potential signings, with the Brighton & Hove Albion star one name that has come up in discussions, but Mac Allister already looks set for a move to Liverpool.

The Mirror reported this weekend that the Argentine international is keen on a move to Anfield as the Reds have already put plans into action to sign the £70m-rated Mac Allister as their first major move of the summer transfer window.

Whilst Chelsea’s newfound interest in Mac Allister might have been a problem in previous windows, the west London side’s dismal season and lack of European football next year has given Liverpool a huge boost in their mission to sign the Brighton midfielder.

Indeed, with the Reds still firmly in the race for top-four, Mac Allister is making a wise decision in choosing a move to Liverpool rather than heading to the English capital for Chelsea, where the Argentine international could easily become nothing but a bench player under Pochettino.

Getting transfer business done early is an encouraging sign from any top Premier League side, and Liverpool potentially wrapping up a deal for Mac Allister before the season is done would be a great move from the club, especially when it comes at Chelsea’s expense.

The Blues have again taken too long to make a simple decision in appointing Pochettino, and had the Argentine joined Chelsea sooner, the west London side could have had a chance in signing Mac Allister ahead of Liverpool, though that window now looks firmly shut.
