Liverpool player spotted needing crutches yesterday

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been spotted using crutches whilst leaving a hospital in Barcelona yesterday.

Thiago’s season is already over, a hip injury ruling him out of action earlier this month. As a result, Jurgen Klopp admitted previously that the 32-year-old would undergo surgery, and that now looks to have come to pass.

As seen in a video from the Anfield Edition Twitter page yesterday, Thiago could be seen hobbling through the hospital exit door whilst on crutches. Per the post, the Spain international was in Barcelona. Judging from the palm trees seen in the background, he’s certainly not on Merseyside!

Ever the gentleman, Liverpool’s No.6 stops and poses for pictures with a couple of fans before hobbling away.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery Thiago, see you back for pre-season!

More frustration for Thiago

Although always a worry to see a player needing crutches, this shouldn’t be too much of a shock for Liverpool fans.

It’s been common knowledge for a little while now that Thiago won’t play again this season. It marks the end of another frustrating campaign at Anfield for the £20m man. But there should be some hope that surgery will correct this ongoing hip issue.

Given the way Thiago plays, forever disguising passes with the shape of his body, it isn’t a surprise that he’s been beset by hip problems. Now that he’s seemingly had work done to correct that, let’s hope it gives him a new lease of life. If it can, then Liverpool will be a better side next season.

It remains to be seen just how big-a part he’s slated to play when all is said and done in the transfer window. But whoever is brought into the club over the coming months, they won’t be as gifted as Thiago.

When fit and on-song he’s comfortably the best midfielder the Reds currently have in the squad. Hopefully with more quality options available next season the pressure will be off Thiago to play quite so much.

Along with the successful surgery, this should hopefully allow the former Bayern Munich man the rest and recuperation he needs between appearances.

Heading into the last year of his Liverpool contract, Thiago looks unlikely to sign a new one. But if he can give us one, injury-free campaign and end it with some more silverware, you never know. Rest up, lad.
