Liverpool have reportedly made their opening move to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, who is expected to leave Bergamo this summer.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Reds have made the first steps needed to bring the Dutch international to Anfield, with a deal for Koopmeiners expected to be worth as much as €40m (£34m) as Liverpool look to bulk out their central midfield options.

As per the report, Juventus are also interested in Koopmeiners, however given the financial strength Liverpool have over their European rivals, the Merseyside giants are the clear favourites to land the Serie A star this summer.

Hailed as an ‘extraordinary’ player by former Atalanta favourite Domenicao Progna, Koopmeiners has been one of the most consistent performers in the Italian top flight since signing from AZ in 2021, and Liverpool now seem intent on adding the Dutchman to their ranks.

Indeed, Koopmeiners could be a fantastic addition for Liverpool, and at 25, the Atalanta star is at the right age to take his game to the next level under Jurgen Klopp, who could be the perfect coach for the Netherlands international.

An industrious midfielder who can operate a number of roles, Koopmeiners ticks a lot of boxes for what Liverpool supporters will want in a summer signing this year, and at £34m, the Atalanta star could be a perfect addition to play under Klopp.

As mentioned, Koopmeiners is at the right age to succeed at Liverpool, and if the Anfield side can pull off a deal, the midfielder has every chance to flourish into a world-class player on Merseyside in what is looking to be an exciting new era for the club.
