Liverpool still want Premier League midfielder alongside Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in pursuing a deal for Mason Mount despite inching closer towards signing Brighton & Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister.

According to Football London, the Reds view the Chelsea midfielder as a target even with Liverpool closing in on a deal to bring Mac Allister to Anfield, with Brighton believed to value the Argentine international as highly as £70m.

With Liverpool keen to sign more than one midfielder this summer, it makes sense why Mount remains a target for Jurgen Klopp’s side, though with Chelsea also asking for around £70m for the England international, the finances could make a deal difficult with Mac Allister seemingly further along.

As per Football London, Mount and Chelsea recently reopened talks over extending the playmaker’s contract at Stamford Bridge, yet that still hasn’t stopped the Blues from valuing the 24-year-old as highly as £70m even with the midfielder’s deal currently set to expire in 2024.

Indeed, Liverpool could pressure Chelsea into lowering their asking price for Mount, and with the Reds set to spend big to bring Mac Allister to Merseyside, there’s every chance that the Anfield side could convince their Premier League rivals to sell one of their star players at a good rate this summer.

Two top midfield signings is the threshold many supporters have when it comes to what will solve Liverpool’s problems in the middle of the park, and Mac Allister and Mount will provide just that even if the total package for the pair could come to as much as £140m.

Both players are Premier League-proven and aged 25 and under, and for Klopp, Mac Allister and Mount could be worth the hefty investment given their individual profiles and just how good the pair could become at Anfield in the years to come.
