Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool player was nearly in tears after facing Fulham

Jurgen Klopp has joked that Alisson Becker was almost in tears after keeping a clean sheet for Liverpool this evening.

Alisson earnt his corn against Fulham, coming up big with two excellent saves to deny Carlos Vinicius. The second in particular was a bit of a show-stopper. And speaking to BBC Sport after the 1-0 win, Klopp admitted that it had been big for the ‘keeper to earn himself a shut-out.

“They had a big chance so could have scored,” said the Liverpool boss. “We had moments in the first half we should have scored. That’s how it is. You have to create. I saw big fight, really good spirit and the boys who came on were flying into the challenges. Of course we can control the game in these moments better but we can improve. We have played much worse in the past.

“Alisson was close to crying with a clean sheet. It’s pretty rare for us this season! It’s very nice, especially for him.”

Give him a big old hug Jurgen, he’s due one from the whole Liverpool fan base this evening. Once again!

Alisson comes up big again

Honestly, where would we be without our majestic Brazilian No.1? It’s often said that the top players make everything look so easy, but have you ever heard it said about a ‘keeper?

Well, with Alisson Becker, that’s exactly what happens. The 30-year-old is simply one of the best to ever do it. That might sound hyperbolic, but it genuinely isn’t. The way he darted off his line and got a huge bear paw out to stop Vinicius scoring tonight was remarkable.

Despite bearing down one-on-one, at no point did the Fulham striker look as if he was going to score. Fast as a flash, Ali was on him and diverting his effort out for a corner.

It speaks to how good the Brazil international has been this season that he now sits joint third for Premier League clean sheets this season. Thinking of how bad Liverpool have been defensively at times, that’s nothing short of a miracle.

Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk deserve credit for their efforts in that, too. But by and large, whenever Alisson has kept the opposition out this season, he’s had to make one, two, three or more brilliant saves.

He’ll be hoping for an easier season next time out, but if he’s ever needed you can absolutely count on Ali to deliver. Wipe away those tears big man!
