Liverpool are reportedly tracking AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, with Chelsea also interested in signing the French international.
According to the Daily Mail, the 24-year-old is a target for both Premier League clubs as Fofana looks primed to leave the Ligue 1 side this summer for England, with Liverpool and Chelsea now both looking to sign the Monaco star.
As per the report, though, Chelsea could have the upper hand in the race to sign Fofana due to the influence on co-sporting director Laurence Stuart, who the Blues hired from Monaco back in October as part of Todd Boehly’s backroom restructure.

However, that’s not to say Liverpool don’t have a fair shot at signing Fofana. Cesc Fabregas urged Jurgen Klopp last year via RMC Sport to sign his former Monaco teammate alongside the likes of Sofiane Diop and Aurelien Tchouameni, the latter of which snubbed the Reds for Real Madrid last summer.
Indeed, with Fofana emerging as one of the best midfielders in France and a talent good enough to feature for France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Liverpool could be making a smart move in tracking the Monaco star, even with interest from Chelsea also looming over the 24-year-old.
Liverpool have to go all out to beat Chelsea to Youssouf Fofana

Fofana’s development over the last two seasons has been nothing short of incredible, with the midfielder starting his career at 15 as a pizza delivery man before going all the way to the top with Monaco and France, and for Liverpool, the Reds simply have to beat Chelsea to the 24-year-old.
Midfielder is the position Liverpool have to improve on this summer, and with Fofana set to leave Monaco, the Merseyside giants have to ensure that they are at the front of the line to sign the Ligue 1 star, who could be perfect in Klopp’s system.
