Ajax have reportedly set a €50m (£44m) asking price on Jurrien Timber amid growing rumours that the defender will leave this summer, with Liverpool interested in the youngster.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Dutch giants are resigned to losing the 21-year-old despite the player himself recently admitting that he wants to leave Ajax this summer, with the Amsterdam-based side now naming their asking price.
The Reds are keen to sign a new central defender this summer, with Timber an ideal candidate to fill this quota for Liverpool given his incredible performances for Ajax over the last two seasons as well as his status as a full international for the Netherlands.
A player who Virgil van Dijk rates highly, Timber is also being watched by the likes of Manchester United, and for Liverpool, Ajax’s asking price for the defender could be a steep too far for them given how much the Anfield side need to invest into the squad this summer.
Timber’s asking price could be steep for Liverpool despite centre-back void

Liverpool have major plans this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to overhaul the squad and return them to challenging for the Premier League title, and whilst Timber could be an excellent addition, Ajax’s asking price could be a bit too much for the Reds.
As we know, Liverpool need multiple signings, mainly in midfield, if they’re to take on Manchester City and Arsenal for the title next season, and whilst Timber has all the quality in the world to succeed at Anfield, the Reds are aware that spending so much on one player could be an issue in their summer plans.
