Burnley have reportedly made a pitch to sign James Milner, with Brighton & Hove Albion also interested in the Liverpool midfielder.

According to the Times, the soon-to-be Premier League side have approached the 37-year-old veteran over a potential transfer, with Milner set to leave Anfield at the end of this season once his contract with Liverpool expires.

Earning a reported £120,000-a-week, Milner is one of three Liverpool midfielders who is expected to leave for free this summer, and Vincent Kompany and his team have seemingly already put in work to bring the former England international to Turf Moor.

Hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by John Aldridge, Milner has been a cornerstone for Jurgen Klopp’s success on Merseyside in the last few years, with the versatile midfielder one of the most important players in Liverpool’s squad and a key clog that has kept the Anfield machine ticking for as long as it has.

However, the midfielder’s time with the club now looks set to come to an end, yet a move to Burnley could be a great one for Milner, with Kompany having a clear vision for the Lancashire side after a historic year in the Championship that will see the Clarets back in the Premier League next season.

Age can sometimes only just be a number in football, and Milner continues to prove that time and time again in his most recent years at Liverpool, and whilst the midfielder would be a dramatic turn in transfer policy for Burnley, the veteran could be crucial in keeping Burnley up in the Premier League.

Indeed, the 37-year-old has all the experience in the world to act as a guiding mentor for Kompany’s young squad, and given the excitement many have over what Burnley can do next season, Milner’s cool demeanour could be vital in the Clarets comfortably staying up next season.
