Liverpool forward Luis Diaz was left impressed by the goalkeeping of 20-year-old Jakub Ojrzynski during training yesterday.
As seen on LFCTV’s ‘Inside Training’ series, Ojrzynsk was between the posts as the Reds practiced some two-touch finishes at the AXA on Friday. Despite being a clear rookie, the young Polish ‘keeper was more than a match for his more senior clubmates.
Having already made flying saves from Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez, Ojrzynski faced Diaz from the edge of the box. After trapping the ball immaculately, the Colombian bent a lovely low drive down to the goalie’s left. But once again, Ojrzynski was equal to it, palming the ball past the post.
Clearly impressed, Diaz turns away nodding and gesticulating towards the youngster with an outstretched thumb.
He says something to the watching Nunez, who shouts his appreciation towards the young Pole. Good job, Kuba!
First team not an option for Ojrzynski
It’s good to see any young player performing well among the senior stars in training. Show the first-teamers what you can do and you never know where it can take you.
Unfortunately for Ojrzynski though, there’s simply no prospect at all of his good performance here getting him into the team.
Even not accounting for the imperious Alisson Becker, he’d have to get somewhere close to Caoimhin Kelleher’s level, too.
Then you’ve got youngsters like Marcelo Pitaluga, Harvey Davies and Fabian Mrozek, all of whom are potentially ahead of Ojrzynski.
So, as good as he looked here, we can say with some certainty that we’ll never see him in the first team at Liverpool.
Savour these days young man, because they’re unlikely to come around in the long-term. Still, not many will keep Lucho out like that!
