Jurgen Klopp has shared his happiness at seeing Curtis Jones have a good run in the Liverpool team.
Jones has now started Liverpool’s last five games, turning in a series of impressive performances. Asked about the 22-year-old’s renaissance in his pre-Tottenham press conference today, Klopp suggested that Jones isn’t given the credit he deserves.
“It’s always with the boys from the academy, people fancy big transfers, things like this. For an academy boy, plays good football, [people say] ‘it’s okay, but I would prefer bringing him in, bringing him in, bringing him in,'” said the manager.

“So I’m really happy for Curtis that he could show up again. He’s only in the squad because he has real quality, now you can see it. He’s good on the ball, safe on the ball which is super helpful. Defends extremely good which is more important. He deserves that spell definitely, he’s had a tough time to go through.”
Basically what you’re saying Jurgen, is that he’s like a new signing…
Jones gives Jurgen transfer headache
Jones’ resurgence is of course good news for Liverpool. But the Scouser has had these little bursts in the past, too. It’s now vital that he continues to show this on a more consistent basis.
Clearly, injuries have played a big part in him being unable to show the best version of himself. Had he stayed fit for the full season, maybe he’d have kicked on even more by now.
But while good news, Jones’ emergence as a consistent starter for the Reds does also throw up a slight question mark ahead of the transfer window.

All season long it’s been clear that Liverpool need to sign midfielders. The expectation has been that at least two, possibly three will be signed ahead of next season.
For many supporters, Jones had probably barely been counted as an option for 2023/24. There had been some rumours that the academy graduate may even be sold. Now though, you have to count him. Off his current form he could in fact be very, very useful to Liverpool.
So, with Jones a genuine contender to start, Liverpool don’t look all that short, necessarily. Making some assumptions on who goes and who stays, these are likely to be Klopp’s options before a signing is made. Thiago, Henderson, Fabinho, Bajcetic, Jones, Elliott – as well as potentially Trent Alexander-Arnold. There’s still a couple need to be added, and much will depend on Trent. But three you’d have to say would be overkill. That’s all credit to Curtis. Keep it going, lad!
