Liverpool will continue their winning streak and put Tottenham Hotspur to the sword this weekend.
That’s the view of former England goalkeeper David Seaman. Speaking on his Seaman Says podcast, the 59-year-old backed Liverpool to turn Spurs over 4-1.
“My question is how many Spurs fans are actually going to travel up there after the Newcastle debacle!” he joked. “I’m going to go 4-1 Liverpool, you can’t turn it around like that.
“And with Ryan Mason coming in you aren’t exactly going to get a big bounce from a new manager there, as he’s been there already, very similar to when they had the coach come in who has just been fired.”
Out the mouth of an Arsenal legend, perhaps this prediction should be taken with a grain of salt. But we’ll take it anyway!
Spurs not to be underestimated
Seaman’s prediction came before Spurs got a decent point against Manchester United last night. 2-0 down in the first-half, it looked like being another chastening result for the North Londoners. But Mason’s side rallied to draw level and as a result will head to Anfield with a little more optimism than they might have.
Liverpool should be wary of taking them too easily. There’s hopefully no chance of Jurgen Klopp and his players doing that, but a few fans and pundits may do. That would be unwise.
It’s worth pointing out that for all their recent trouble, Spurs are still ahead of Liverpool in the league table. That will change if the Reds are able to get three points on Sunday, but that’s all to play for.
They obviously still have a huge amount of quality in the side and took a point at Anfield last season.
So, while Liverpool should go into Sunday’s match-up as favourites, we don’t think it’ll be as one-sided as Seaman expects.
We’d love to be wrong of course, and the Reds have punished a few flimsy defences this season. But we’d take a 1-0 all day.
