Cody Gakpo has named the three Liverpool players who deserve to be in the EA Sports Team of the Season.
Gakpo was interviewed by EA along with Joe Gomez and Adrian. Asked to give his views on the inclusion of Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker in the gaming creatorâs Team of the Season, Gakpo admitted that theyâd been three of Liverpoolâs best performers.
âAlisson especially in the difficult times he was really there for us,â said the Dutchman. âMo tried to help the team as much as possible with his goals and assists, Darwin the same and I think they deserve it.â
Little debate about Liverpoolâs top three
Ask any Liverpool fan to name their Player of the Season this year and youâll get an almost universal view. It simply has to be Alisson Becker. Heâs had one or two wobbles, but by and large the 30-year-old has been consistently amazing.
Without him between the sticks, Liverpool quite realistically could have been in the bottom half of the Premier League.
After Alisson, the pickings do become a little slimmer than usual. But after a lean spell in the middle of the season, youâve got to say that Salah has been back to his best of late.
Having now scored 27 goals this season, heâs probably quite comfortably been the Reds second-best player of the campaign.
Beyond those two star performers, thereâs a couple of names who deserve mention. Nunez may be disputed by some, but heâs still managed 15 goals in 2022/23. As well as goals heâs also been generally a livewire and for large periods has carried Liverpoolâs main attacking threat. He probably just edges third.
After the Uruguayan, Ibrahima Konate is potentially next in line. The centre-back has only played 14 times in all competitions, but has been one of Liverpoolâs best players in each one. Roberto Firmino is another who has kept his levels relatively high, while Stefan Bajcetic is another to have drawn deserved praise.
Hopefully weâll be able to talk about some markedly better feats from our players at the end of next season.
