BT pundit strongly disagrees with what Robbie Savage said about Liverpool last night

Robbie Savage was told where to go by Jermaine Beckford after claiming that Leicester City will beat Liverpool next month.

The two pundits were covering Leicester’s draw with Leeds United on BT Sport last night. And in quotes relayed by Leicestershire Live, they couldn’t agree on Savage’s prediction for the game at the King Power on May 15th.

“From those remaining games, Liverpool at home, Leicester do well against them, and West Ham at home on the last day. Two wins at home for Leicester I think will keep them up,” began Savage.

“You think Leicester beat Liverpool?” questioned Beckford “Yeah, not seen Liverpool play this season?” replied the former Wales international.

“I disagree,” retorted Beckford, but Savage ploughed on. “Have you not seen Liverpool defend? That high line?” he asked. The former Everton striker wasn’t having it, though. “I disagree,” said Beckford. “As much as I would like to see Leicester beat them, I can’t see it”

“Why can’t they?” queried Savage, determined not to let this one go. “Because Liverpool have just started to get into a groove,” said Beckford. “They’ve got key players – Diaz is back from his injury, Gakpo is starting to find his feet. There’s a couple of players in there that have got a point to prove for next season and they’re starting to find a bit of form. I just can’t see it.”

Liverpool aiming to end Leicester hoodoo

In fairness to Savage, Leicester do have a good record against Liverpool – particularly at home. They’ve beaten the Reds four times at the King Power since their promotion in 2014, including winning each of the last two.

Liverpool’s away form this season has also been particularly poor. As a result, Dean Smith may well be looking at the match against Jurgen Klopp’s side as potential for three points.

But conversely, Liverpool are clearly a much better side than Leicester right now. In each of those previous victories against the Reds, the Foxes have been in far better shape than they are now. On paper, there should only be one winner.

Under the lights at the KP for Monday Night Football though, it will be a bigger test than it looks on paper. With two crucial games to come for Leicester before then, the atmosphere will depend on how those have gone.

If the Foxes are, as it looks like they will be, in desperate need of a win, then it’ll be a raucous atmosphere. Liverpool have choked in a few of those this season.

But as Beckford points out, this is now a slightly different team to the one that lost at Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. We’d still back the Reds to come out of this one with the points.
